The RKU- Universitäts- und Rehabilitationskliniken Ulm are maximum care clinics focussing on orthopaedics and neurology. The clinics unite acute care and subsequent medical and professional rehabilitation of orthopaedic and neurological patients under one roof.

The Orthopaedic University Clinic including its Paraplegic Centre and the Neurological University Clinic with its Stroke Unit in cooperation with the Clinic for Anaesthesiology and Intensive Medical Care make up for the acute section of the RKU. Directly affiliated is a day hospital for treatment of specific pain patients with orthopaedic syndromes. The Orthopaedic and the Neurological Clinic took on lectureship and research assignment for Ulm University.

Besides the acute section, a Clinic for Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine forms the second pillar of the conception. This is the place for hospitalised, day-care and outpatient reconvalescence treatment measures. A third pillar finally is established by the Medical Professional Rehabilitation department and the Commercial Special Vocational College. These sections offer commercial and business commercial training for handicapped youths as well as the traditional measures allocated to the phase-II facilities for professional rehabilitation.

The acute sections and the medical as well as the professional rehabilitation of the RKU make up for an integrated supply chain: Our care challenge does not cease with the primary care for our patients, but is continued by reconvalescence activities and measures aiming at professional and domestic rehabilitation.
