Quality Management
For many years, the RKU participates in the legal external quality assurance actions. Within legal quality assurance, medical as well as care-related data are recorded. This applies for example to case-related and anonymised data on every hip or knee complete endoprosthesis fitting or following a stroke. Data are passed to a central point for evaluation and regional as well as national comparison.
The Clinic for Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine voluntarily takes part in an inquiry of the Hochrhein-Institut. This survey is aimed at recording the reconvalescents' state of health following completion of the final curative treatment.
Reconvalescents of the Department for Medical Professional Rehabilitation are regularly asked about their satisfaction and success half a year after completion of their treatment. Quality parameters are recorded and evaluated allover the clinic within numerous research projects. The results of scientific research immediately add to practical clinical work. Every two years, the RKU implements a cross-departmental self-evaluation in accordance with the EFQM program ("European Foundation for Quality Management", with headquarters in Brussels), which is acknowledged by health care and industry. Evaluation is done for different criteria like management, customer satisfaction and satisfaction of personnel or results of vital key procedures. Those strengths and areas for improvement derived from this self-evaluation lead to numerous improvement projects.
The RKU was one of the first clinics of the Sana group implementing the EFQM program. Managerial staff and personnel of all occupational groups get regular training in quality management. On regular intervals, validated patient, staff and instructor surveys are done to assess satisfaction and deliberately address areas for improvement.
