One of the specialialities of the integrated care concept of the rehabilitation hospital Ulm (RKU) is the possibility of medical-occupational rehabilitation, that means rapid, effective, complete and co-ordinated rehabilitation with the aim of long-term integration. This includes informing people already as patients or as persons looking for advice concerning the possibilities of staying in their job or professional integration, and it also includes the putting into practice of medical and especially professional rehabilitation care (services permitting the participation in professional life) according to the guidelines of the responsible authorities.
In the Department Medical-Occupational Rehabilitation individual means of integration into professional working life are developed and tested, taking into account the physical and psychological possibilities of the patient. Young adults can even successfully complete their apprenticeship.
The department acquires its patients independently from the clinical departments of the RKU, without neglecting the necessary co-operation for the service. Nevertheless it benefits from the possibilities of medical support of the clinics.
Group of people: Adolescents after having finished the compulsory school attendance and adults.
Main fields of indication are neurological and orthopaedic handicaps, as well as restrictions of the caridac or circulation system or of the metabolic system or illnesses caused by allergies. After an examination of the individual case, persons with other internal or psychological illnesses can also participate and take advantage of the services.
