Working time schemes

The prime concern of the RKU's nursing service is to look after the patients. Nursing and care are provided 365x24 hours a year. We are convinced that working time schemes should be a flexible variable rather than a rigid model. They should be based around the patients', staff's and operation's needs and requirements.

The roster of nursing duties is scheduled on a monthly basis. A roster will normally be ready two weeks before the start of the next month. As of the 25th of a month, it is compulsory for both employees and employers. It goes without saying that all working time and occupational protection regulations are complied with.

The scheme of shifts worked by the RKU's nurses is arranged around the classical system of early, late and night shifts plus, in some divisions, a so-called "super late shift". Having nurses work from the late afternoon until about midnight meets the increased nursing needs during that time. Introducing this extra shift yielded a more balanced provisioning of patient care and helped to improve the satisfaction of both patients and nurses.
