Treatment alternatives

Based around Bobat's, Affolte's and Perfetti's therapeutic concepts as well as PNF, manual therapy and wheelchair seating as promoted by Bengt Engström, the RKU's Ergotherapy Department offers the following treatment alternatives:

  • Improvement / preservation of mobility, muscular strength, fitness and maximum exercise tolerance
  • Learning about or improving the locomotor and sensor abilities (gross and fine motor skills, initiating and coordinating movements and sensibility)
  • Self-help training, e.g. getting dressed, household training, eating, wheelchair use, writing
  • Training to counteract neuropsychological deficits and cognitive disabilities such as lack of concentration and memory
  • Manufacture, testing and adaptation of tools and aids and splints
  • Wheelchair testing and supply, finding the correct wheelchair seating, provisioning of individualised cushions
  • Consulting with the rebuilding of flats/houses and retrofitting of motor vehicles for disabled persons
  • Consulting of relatives on how to use tools and aids and how to plan the accommodation
  • Stump toughening and care, teaching of a special stump wrapping technique, prosthesis handling and use
  • Joint protection
  • Advice on workplace design, seating advice and practical testing
  • Back training for everyday loads
